This web site is dedicated to moms staying at home to raise their families. We are clearly in an economic squeeze and it is becoming more and more difficult to pinch pennies. I hope to share ideas to make it easier for moms to run a household, homeschool and grow in their relationship with the Lord during these times.
The introduction of the Parental Rights Amendment in the U.S. Congress (H.J. Res. 42) was announced at a press conference Wednesday afternoon. Below is the body of parentalrights.org president Michael Farris’s powerful speech from that event. If your Congressman or Senator is not already onboard, we urge you to copy and paste that message into an email or letter to send to them, along with your own personal message. (Check the sponsors list; find contact info.) This message clearly articulates the need for the Amendment; it is imperative that we get it into the hands of all of America’s lawmakers.
Statement of Michael Farris
President of ParentalRights.org
March 31, 2009
On behalf of ParentalRights.org and the rapidly growing number of allied organizations, I want to thank Senator Jim DeMint, Congressman Pete Hoekstra, and my own Congressman Frank Wolf for their leadership on this important issue.
There are two basic reasons that the Constitution has been amended throughout our history. Sometimes the need is to preserve our law and traditions from potential threats and erosion of our rights. The Bill of Rights serves as the chief example of amendments designed to preserve the existing rights of the people.
At other times, it is absolutely necessary to change the existing law. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were clearly necessary to end the evils of slavery and establish the principle of equal protection for all Americans.
We are living in times that unpredictable things can happen such as storms, floods, terrorist attracts, earthquakes and so forth. If for some reason you need to leave your home it is important to have an emergency notebook separate from your home management notebook so you can grab it quickly before you leave. As you are thinking about what to place in your binder ask yourself, what paper work would be difficult for our family to replace? Some examples of papers you might want in your emergency notebook are:
Birth certificates
Passports
Social security cards
Copies of your credit cards front and back
Homeowner’s insurance policy
Auto insurance policy
Bank statements retirements statements
Internet passwords such as banking, personal or work
The beginning of a new year is a good time to add a goal setting section to your home management notebook.
Remember a goal is something you strive for not something you pass or fail. Some goals can be small and simple while others can be large mountains in your life.
Start first by opening your heart in prayer to God, asking Him what He would like for you to achieve in your life for Him in 2009. Then, start writing out some ideas for your 2009 goals using a form like http://specialed.about.com/od/worksheets/ss/goalsetting.htm then add it to your home management notebook under a tab labeled 2009 Goals.
Maybe you want to start a healthier lifestyle. Set some goals to reach each month. The first month you could spend researching and learning, start buying healthier food and introduce a few new recipes, then the next month start growing some lettuce or herbs in a large pot, and so on.
After you set your goals for 2009 be sure to place them in your home management notebook for quick referance. It is also good to share your goals with a few close prayer partners. Phillipians 4:6Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.
5 Reasons to Store Whole Wheat
Thursday, January 03, 2008 -
Storing whole wheat as part of an emergency food storage system was something my parents did. They had the massive, loud wheat grinder that emitted a cloud of wheat dust every time it was used. They made loaves of whole wheat bread and ate hot, cracked wheat cereal.
Storing and using whole wheat was fine for my parents, but I live in a time when I can quickly and easily buy whole wheat bread from the store. I also live in a time when there are about 248 other things I’d rather eat for breakfast than hot, cracked wheat cereal.
I currently have wheat in my food storage; it’s a good idea after all. Wheat is the “staff of life” as they say and will sustain me and my family through any emergency situation. Why, my stored wheat may save more than just my family…it could save the neighbors and maybe even our whole town!
32″But of that day or hour no one knows, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but the Father alone.
33″Take heed, keep on the alert; for you do not know when the appointed time will come.
34″It is like a man away on a journey, who upon leaving his house and putting his slaves in charge, assigning to each one his task, also commanded the doorkeeper to stay on the alert.
35″Therefore, be on the alert–for you do not know when the master of the house is coming, whether in the evening, at midnight, or when the rooster crows, or in the morning–
36in case he should come suddenly and find you asleep.
37″What I say to you I say to all, ‘Be on the alert!’”
The Old Schoolhouse Magazine advertised a great site today called Worksheet Works. The printable worksheets from this site are wonderful. You can even customize your own to fit your families needs. The part I like best is they are free! Be sure and bookmark this one.
A number of years ago, Dr. David H. Fink, a psychiatrist for the veterans administration, wrote an article for Coronet Magazine, entitled, “Release from Nervous Tension.” In his article, he outlined his research into the causes of mental and emotional disturbances.
From over 10,000 case studies, he discovered that there was a common trait with all his patients who suffered from severe tension. They were habitual fault-finders, constant critics of people and things around them. Those who were free from tension, were the least critical. His conclusions were that the habit of fault-finding is a prelude or mark of the nervous, or the mentally unbalanced. Those who wish to retain good emotional and mental health, should learn to free themselves from a negative and critical attitude.
Remember this, the Bible doesn’t promise peace to those who dwell on the faults of others! It says that the Lord will keep them in perfect peace, whose minds are stayed on Him! (Isaiah 26:3).
“Every good and perfect gift
is from above,
coming down from the Father
of heavenly lights,
Who does not change
like the shifting shadows.
He chose to give us birth
through the Word of Truth,
that we might be
a kind of firstfruits
of all He created.”
(James 1:17-18)
Beloved, I pray that your Christmas was filled with the hope, love, joy, and peace of Jesus Christ! As we begin to clean away the remnants of our celebration, and as the world moves along, expediently but blindly going about its business, I encourage you to linger in the glory of Christ. Move beyond the celebration of the manger to the appreciation of the cross. And look beyond the appreciation of the cross to the anticipation of the coming King.Today begins a twelve-day journey from Trumpet and Torch Ministries, specifically written to keep us Christ-centered and King-focused as we move from 2008 (”The Year of the Lord’s Favor”) to 2009 (”The Year of the Harvest”). “Epiphany: The Coming King” provides three daily devotions (one for breakfast, lunch, and dinner), conveniently delivered via e-mail. Click here to receive twelve more days of Christmas!Precious friends, God is so good to intersect the hearts of those who love and live for Him “at such a time as this” (reference Esther 4:14). It is indeed a divine blessing to share the privilege of serving our Lord with you.Precious Father, I thank You for Your goodness, Your love, and Your good gifts, especially the gift of Your Son, Jesus Christ. As our traditional Christmas observances end, precious Father, I pray that we would remain filled with the ebuillient joy of the Wise Men (reference Matthew 2:10), the humble amazement of the shepherds (reference Luke 2:8-20), and the unshakeable faith of Mary (reference Luke 1:26-38, 46-55; 2:19). May we acknowledge that the baby in a manger is the King of kings and the Lord of lords, and may we live pure and holy lives in anticipation of the establishment of His righteous and eternal kingdom. I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, our coming King! Amen.
“In the presence of God
and of Christ Jesus,
Who will judge
the living and the dead,
and in view
of His appearing
and His kingdom,
I give you this charge:
Preach the Word;
be prepared in season
and out of season;
correct, rebuke and encourage–
with great patience
and careful instruction.” (2 Timothy 4:1-2)
